I agree with u. Tought this type would not have been effective warplane untill the late 90s because it had som many problems. Even than it would have been only better to the Harrier in limited ways.

Fixed wing aircraft are more glamorous, thats why this project was cancelled. Especially for smaller powers VTOL is highly under rated since I larger enemy can easily take out your runway. If Yugoslavia had Harriers or this aircraft NATO would not have intervened knowing that these aircraft can take out several high value targets on a oneway mission.

No, this is a much newer design. This was to rplace the Yak-38 on Kiev class carriers.

if i remember right this plane failed miserably because of its short range and poor safety record. originally it did not have a engine behind the cockpit that was added in because the main engine was under powered. it beat the harrier into the air but a harrier would beat it back down to earth or hied behind a tree for 5 min and let it run out of fuel.
