I like it very much!!!! This story is so tense and exciting. Ryuichi Sakamoto is beautiful!!! But I don't understend, why did Bowie kiss him?

I saw this for the first time last night. Sakamota is incredibly beautiful, and the Japanese characters are by far much much more interesting than the bland Brits, including Bowie. Conti plays the oh-lord-these-guys-are-just-savages type and rolls his eyes, and his captain is one of these asshole pip-pip-glory-and-country characters you see in colonialist movies.Has anyone read the book? The movie displays an odd tension between a colonialist version of the Brits and unrepentant Japanese.
