If only 3-phase power was cheap, Dave, then we would not have to worry about those stupid single phase capacitor start motors. 3-phase motors just hook up directly to the 3-phase line with no starting capacitors required thanks to the power going in being 120 degrees out of phase of each phase with respect to each other.

A 220-240 Vrms draws less current for the same power output. In Europe they exclusively use 220-240 Vrms. In America and some other countries 110-120 Vrms is primarily used, with the 220-240 Vrms circuits for stoves and clothes dryers.

I have a 6000 BUT fedders with digital controls, compressor kicks in, doesnt get cold, compressor sound sounds a bit off from my other identical AC. low freon?

does nothing in canada have fuses in?? If that unit had a fuse in somewhere it would have blown before it had a chance to melt the cord plug like that...
