This was just a very short run to try out making a video. It was 2 trips, the daylight one was bout 7 miles if I recall and the night time on was about 4. Clothing wise I highly recommend thermal underwear, and a skiiing jacket, which seems to work well with the recumbent posture.

I am just curious, what is the length of the trip? What type of clothing would you recommend to be able to handle the cold weather? Thanks

My short wheelbase is pretty good uphill. Most of them are.

After owning three bents. My 2 fav uphill climbers are the Tour Easy and Voloe Club. Rode out with the local CTC A riders for my first time and was first up a 1/2 mile 1in3 on the Tour Easy, now if doesn't suggest that bents do not climb then I give up! Though saying that My optima lynx let me down on hills with a lot less gradient!!! All the best with the transistion, happy laid back riding ;]

Very nice machine and ride! I ride a Bacchetta Corsa myself and yes it does climb well.

thanks, i'm not bothered about it being slow uphill, but i want to be able to get to the top of steep hills.

Well that all depends on your definition of "pants". Generally they are a bit slower uphill than an upright, generally the speed boost on the flats and descents more than balances it out though. It is mostly down to rider conditioning. Anyone who tells you recumbents can't climb after riding them once doesn't know what they are talking about, you need to be riding for at least 6 months before you have decent power. The P-38 Lightning is supposedly the best hill climbing recumbent available. |
