I prefer the opaque type of Nalgene water bottle made of HDPE. They are considered safer for hot water.I avoid the soft necked ones, because I can't cook instant noodles in it.

A useful tip on those canteen covers(only works with the fuzzy inside ones)Soak the cover in water and put your canteen in it. As the water evaporates it will pull heat out of the water in your canteen lowering the temperature of the water.
