they looked cool, but in a manner with respect for the times and the styles of those times. they didn't go out of their way to be "badass" as todays artists do. they were cool just doing their thing. i bet if you look deep down at the artists who look "ghetto" -- you'll probably find a sunday church singer, or an old folks home volunteer
