nothing sounds out of place here to meit sounds like hes doing his thing, and making that guitar sing rather than sound out notes. he truly is one of the most inspiring guitarists that i have heard

i agree with you, very much. the allmans have become a kind pedestal for trucks and haynes to shine from. Both guitarists outrank the other musicians in the band (except the bassist who is nasty too), and it's not just technical ability. they both have otherworldly phrasing, with trucks unleashing crazy melodies, and haynes holding up his end with more old school blues and southern rock.

lads, too much technical analysis. I've played guitar for 30 years. Derrick has "it" and the only shame is that the band can't find more aestheically compelling tunes so that this dude can become a more exposed guitar hero - he's phenomenal!

No, it's perfectly fine. I have very little knowedge of scales anyways. I knew Dereck generally uses the Harmonic minor scale every now and then. It was an educated guess. But I do appreciate the correction. =]

i'd have to say it does sounds out of place in my ears as well but i think he did it on purpose to add unique sounds maybe?

oh sorry, i wasnt trying to correct you so to speak. i hate when people try to correct me, i just kinda recognized the notes he was playing and threw it out there.
joebrassmonkey (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Well, I apreciate you correcting me. I'm not up on al the scales. Too much thinking involved for me. =D
sirus1987 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
its not necessarily harmonic minor which BTW only has 1 "outside the box" note which isnt really outside the box, its just the leading tone which is very common. it sounds like hes using mostly the Dorian blues scale which is the natural minor scale with a natural 6th and it adds the flat 5th. and its mostly how hes phrasing it, derek is amazing.

Got to correct myself. It was the Harmonic Minor Scale.
joebrassmonkey (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I believe he was using the harmonic Scale, which has amny "out of the box" notes in it. If you know how to use it, like Derek, You can make it sound wonderful. |
