This is Part 1 of a 2 part series on snare wires and sympathetic snare buzz. Bob proves that snare wires are crucial in creating a "signature" snare drum sound. It includes a workshop and drum set demos. This is a real eye-opener!

Same to you dreja! Yes. I find the "curved" style clip generally making better intimate contact with the head. Like Puresound "Blasters" and Gibraltor snares. My preference are the Blasters, I like the uncoated (no chrome) snare wires

Great Video! But do you have have any tips on how to put the snare wires on correctly. I put it on but it's still makes a rattling noise, when I hit it and especially when I hit any of my toms and bass drum. If you could let me know that would be great.

The effort is to create a clip that works well on all drums. Basically there are 2 styles. The step-clip has a 90-degree angle (like a stair step) and the curved-clip that sports a soft radius. I favor the curved clip design, it's more compatible.

And, can you suggest one type of the clip for one specific design of snare bed? If the snare bed is in the shape of arc, what clip would you suggest?

Hi, Bob.Happy New Year!I wanna ask you something about snare clips. Does the different snare clips have to do with accommodating different snare beds?Thank you so much!

It varies, just move the pitch up & down until you find a spot that minimizes snare buzz.

Hey, I just bought some Moongels and put them on, and there is a lot less snare buzz. there is some buzz, but a lot less. my parents won't let me cut off snare wires, so I guess that I'll just have to stick with it. One more question: how does tuning your toms LOWER create LESS snare buzz? if the heads are looser, then theres more vibrations, therefore causing more buzz. it just doesn't make sense to me.

thanks for replying. I'll probably just start out with moongells, lol.

Reducing snare buzz is like a cocktail...a mixture of ingredients. The answer is both, cutting down on the amount of snares, specific tunings and muffling as a last resort. Hope this helps

hey, Bob.I just went and counted my snare wires, and I counted 24. I think that's a lot. and my toms make it vibrate SO much. it's so annoying. it's worst on my floor tom. do you think I shpuld try and cut some of them off, tune my toms lower, or try and buy some muffling? I would just like to know what you think would work best.
