"but if there is a 100% frontal impact, the chassis has more chance of taking forces easily.. so that does not mean, the cars, that were tested this way could pass euro ncap, because in case of a 40% frontal impact, the "surviving space" might decrease, due to a failing A column.." Maybe, but all the new cars are made so stiff that even in 40% frontal crash theres no damage in passenger area. At higher speeds it would be harder to pass in 40% crash.

"These results may also apply to:Chevrolet MalibuOpel InsigniaOpel VectraSaab 9-3"now here stands another bullshit... why would theese results stand for the Vectra(4 stars on euro NCAP), and the Insignia at the same time, when the two cars have nothing to do with eachother??? Insignia has a full new platform, and the whole chassis is brand new..

US crashtest supposes that all frontal impacts are made with 100% overlap. but its not true! infact this kind of a crash is really rare.. theese cars are not tested, to worser situations.. this is my opinion.

I still have something to add: "car will still stop from 64km/h to 0km/h in same distance and same forces will hurt passangers" ..true! but if there is a 100% frontal impact, the chassis has more chance of taking forces easily.. so that does not mean, the cars, that were tested this way could pass euro ncap, because in case of a 40% frontal impact, the "surviving space" might decrease, due to a failing A column..

Those tests in 80's were at a lot lower speeds and safery of passangers only depended on how much the car will break.TOday its diferent. Even the 4 star cars dont get 4 stars coz they break, but coz airbags and seat belts arent so perfect and they dont stop the passanger when the car stops suddenly at crash. My point is. No matter what kind of frontal crash u do, car will still stop from 64km/h to 0km/h in same distance and same forces will hurt passangers.

but if you have wached the Trabants crashtest, its has PASSED through a 100% frontal impact crash test (done in the '80-s) Im sure, if it was an original 40% frontal test, it would have fallen to pieces :D my opinion is, that if a Trabi could pass the American style test, then anyting can pass... that why I prefer EuroNCAP style..
derbigpr500 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Obviously you dont understand crash tests. This test and EuroNCAP arent different too much. The only diference is that in EuroNCAP car hits with 40% of front end and here with 100%. So at euro test car will break more, but stopping forces are the same, and its as hard to pass this test...same as EuroNCAP.

Is that an Opel Vectra? Or Astra?.. what the hell is it? And why are they testing it in a full frontal collosion?? Even a mini one could pass on a test like this.. EuroNCAP.. now thats hard to accomplish!
mike63v8 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
it wasn't an offset crsah test though, so the force was more evenly distributed on the hood
