not very dangerous, if it did fail, it would not catch fire, it is submerged, plus metal doesnt expand when cooled. plus the cool temp would lessen if not remove the chance of overheating.

that is very dangerous, as cheap pumps ARE NOT designed for sub zero operation temperatures, which will cause part of the metal shaft to expand, jam and catch fire. IT HAPPENED TO ME!!!! so if u buy a good german made one like EHEIM pumps, they will do the trick!
