You don't have to stop at a gas station, but it just transfers the fuel consumption elsewhere. If you get your electricity from coal fired plants, then the environmentalist will complain about that. Electric cars are fine for those who live in paradise-like climates like Southern Cal., but here in the South we use cars that have air conditioners and defrosters. These items would require a lot of energy from the battery of an electric car, and you wouldn't get far using them.

unfortunately, much electric power in the US is still produced by burning fossil fuels. hopefully, we can change that in the next generation.

FatJan, its not that you have to be a movie star to own an electric car, its that the car companies won't even allow you to own one. They simply stopped selling them. GM introduced the EV-1 after AeroVironment built the Sun Racer for the World Solar Challenge. After they came up with a working, functional prototype GM decided to lease them. After a month of leasing they took the cars back without the option to buy. If they gave us a chance to make a difference, we would. Just think about that.

First off, 90% of the population drive only 30-40 miles per day. So 70 is plenty, but not to the electric car companies, the new electric cars with Nickel Metal-Hydride batteries can get up to 200 miles per charge and can go up to 120 miles per hour. If you think electric cars aren't worth the switch, read up on it and decide, don't go off of what you see on some talk show. Mkay?

Honestly, ignoring any political/ environmental argument, the electric technology kicks any petrol car... checkout the British Lightning car, and the American Tesla :)

Well at 2.7p per mile, and 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, it is kinda tempting :)I love that electric car makers have woken up to the fact no one will like them until they out perform the best of petrol...Just looking into the stats, there's no way petrol can keep up with what's coming... no physical gearbox (wheel drive), 96% efficient motors, massive torque from start... full charge in 10 mins (British Lightning tech) it's the end for petrol within 10 years I reckon...

No, you're the ignorant and conservative idiot! I have a Prius, it gets over 40 mph, has great pickup speed on the freeway, and finally we have a president who is going to push for alternative vehicles. Get yourself an education about non-polluting, non-fossil fuel using autos, and public transportation, because that's where the USA is going!

Tom hanks has served as a legend not only in his movies, but his value in real life will prove one day, very soon, even more legendary then his motion pictures. |
