I like to think that each bond is a different person, James Bond is the agency code name for 007, and when the older bond dies or retires, a new bond takes his place (maybe 006 moves up a rank or something like that)

It's because they are telling how it all began, plus they are beginning to go back to the books. This is based on one of Flemmings other books. And yes, Judi Dench was in Goldeneye, but she is so awesome they kept her in. They knew it caused minor problems. But hey? It's Bond. Nobody cares too much.

James bond is a charachter in books, the books came first, and are adapted to movies.Casino Royal was the first bond book.These are remakes of the books, you guys do know Bond was a charachter in books before the films were ever made right?, these are the books re-imagined in a modern setting. They cant have it set in the 60's because they wont get any product placement deals to fund the film if they set it in the past.
