cake=the relationship.But who left it in the rain? aka didn't take care of it so, it was ruined.someone.Either the singer is lamenting the mistakes THEY made thus ruining the relationship and is wondering why. Full or regret.or,The singer made the cake and the other person left it in the rain. Destroyed the relationship.The singer needs to move on, but knows that they will never have a love so great.My view is the latter,probably because it pertains to my own experience.
