Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), a gay lawyer infected with HIV, is fired from his conservative law firm in fear that they might contract AIDS from him. After Andrew is fired, in a last attempt for peace, he sues his former law firm with the help of a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller (Denzel Washington). During the court battle, Miller sees that Beckett is no different than anyone else on the gritty streets of the city of brotherly love, sheds his homophobia and helps Beckett with his case before AIDS overcomes him. Hope you like it!!Music: Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia(I own nothing)

if you see the look he gets when he is talking with one of the partners after his promotion and he is asked how he got the blot on his forhead after he awnsers the partner has the look on his face as if he knows andy is lying and he has aids and when the trial begins that partner says it was the same blot he saw on the woman they fired for having aids

I'm glad Tom Hanks got the Oscar for this movie!. Denzel should have won too IMO.

I saw the movie Philadelphia today .and I think it was a great movieOne thing I didn't understand that it was not made clear in the movie that wyant wheeler law firm actually did fire andrew beckett for having AIDS and homosexuality and not for incompetence..In one of the scenes after joe miller brings the summons to the parteners of wyant wheeler.....charles says "andrew brought AIDS to the company......" something like
styleboy321 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
that. Did he(Charles) knew already that andrew had AIDS or he came to know about it after reading the summons? One thing i can tell that he didn't know that andrew was gay..as the latter never told anyone about it in the office. Can anyone give me some instances from the movie which proves this(that they fired andrew because of AIDS)?I am still not sure as this point has not been stated explicitly in the movie,,

A Freddy
